Dark Skies
The skies above Lost Maples State Natural Area, and indeed the entire western half of the Hill Country, are deep and dark. Visibility is excellent, and we want to keep it that way. Using the guidelines set out by DarkSky Association, the park has recently adopted the DarkSky Guidelines for outdoor lighting, and is well on its way to assuring that all lighting in the park meets the IDA's standards. In addition, the staff of LMSNA, in conjunction with the Friends of Lost Maples, is in the process of applying for recognition as a Dark Sky Park. We strongly support the park's efforts, and will continue to educate the public on this vital issue, including leading Dark Sky interpretive events, informational booths and collaboration with other like-minded organizations.
